I read facebook for a little bit yesterday while I was eating my lunch. A lot of people were talking about winning personal battles and the importance of being aware of your personal problem areas, etc. Truthfully it just sat wrong with me. I think way to many young people, especially those of traditionally marginalized genders, are overly selfconscious. They're always looking for personal problem areas and trying to fix them. This is one of those things that leads to waiting instead of living.
As a 50-something individual, I wish I wouldn't have spent so many hours, days, weeks, months of so many years trying to fix myself. In the end, I have grown wiser, but I don't think that I have significantly changed. Probably my best growth is in simply accepting myself. There is no reason that 20-somethings can't do that right away and spend all that time doing better things than trying to fix "problems" that are unlikely to resolve, and maybe simply quirks and normal human imperfections.
