I have been learning how to make smoothies in my Vitamix 5200. Yesterday, I made a smoothie that came in the recipe book that came with the blender. It was the Going Green Smoothie, and it included 1/2 c. water, 1 c. green grapes, 1/2 c. fresh pineapple (I included core), 1/2 banana, 2 c. packed spinach, & 1/2 c. ice, all blended for 45 seconds. I liked how it tasted except there was maybe a little too much astringency from the pineapple, and there was enough for two people, and usually I'll just be making a smoothie for me. Also it didn't seem quite cold enough.
Today, I modified it. I mixed 1/4 c. water, 1 tangerine, 1/2 c. green grapes, 1/4 c. fresh pineapple, 1/2 banana, 1 c. packed spinach, 1 kale leaf (de-veined), & 1 cup ice for just 40 seconds. This smoothie seemed too cold! I am obviously picky, but the portion size was about right, maybe just a little bit too much. The flavor was better. I think the addition of the tangerine just moved it over the top. But maybe the flavor was just a little bit watered down from all the ice? Also, it wasn't quite as smooth as the one yesterday. Maybe it was because I blended it for a shorter amount of time, or maybe it was the addition of kale. I am thinking I need to use frozen fruit to get a more perfect blend.
